Experts from Coventry University were invited to give a lecture to International Business postgraduate students

On the afternoon of November 8, 2023, Associate Professor Yu Mei of Finance, School of Economics, Finance and Accountancy, and School of Business and Law, Coventry University, UK, gave a special lecture to our International Business postgraduate students. Associate Professor Yu Mei is the Director of International Finance and Banking (Specialization) Program and Head of the TAR UMT Program at Coventry University and is a PhD supervisor of the university and an external examiner of Bangor University in the UK.

The theme of this lecture is "GenderDiversity, Gender Bias and ESG Performance", i.e. "Gender Diversity, Gender Bias and ESG Performance". In the lecture, Associate Professor YuMei started with the ESG topic of today's economic hotspot and introduced the issues of gender bias in enterprises. The lecture was delivered in full English, starting with "Background of the study", "Importance of the study", "Hypothesis", "Methodology", "Preliminary results" and "Methodology". "Preliminary results" and "Conclusion". By analyzing the problem of discrimination in the enterprise using the Logit model, the correlation between the three aspects in the article is more clearly illustrated.

After the lecture presentation, Associate Professor Yu Mei had a wonderful interaction and questions with the students, which fully mobilized their learning enthusiasm. One of the students, Donna Tong, asked the teacher about how to take or what measures should be taken to encourage enterprises to improve gender diversity under the premise of the conclusion of the current study, and what the next possible research ideas would be. The teacher patiently explained and affirmed the students' questions, and encouraged other students to dare to ask questions, think well, and their thinking skills, and express their own opinions in the process of communication.

After the lecture, our Prof. Yang Yong and associate Prof. Yu Mei discussed and exchanged ideas about the content of the lecture, so that students could further understand the conclusions that increased gender diversity improves environmental, social, and governance performance and that board-level gender diversity policies are effective. Ms.Yao Li and Ms. Yan Chunrong also participated in the lecture exchange.

The lecture had a positive impact on the future dissertation planning of International Business Master 23 graduate students. Graduate students in the audience expressed their feelings:"Although the lecture was very short, our feelings were infinite".The lecture deepened graduate students' understanding of ESG economic hot topics and motivated them to analyze some of the hot topics from multiple perspectives, and to think creatively in relation to the contents of different fields. The postgraduates all thought that the lecture provided them with new ideas for further postgraduate study and thesis writing, which was of great benefit to them.
